Monday links

I've decided to start each week with a series of links to articles, websites, blogs etc that I've spent the weekend amassing. I often post these onto Twitter, but in case you don't follow me on twitter (and you should!) or miss them since we live on opposite sides of the world and live by different time zones I'll be posting them here for all your viewing pleasure!

*After Gabe (GabrielReads) mentioned on Twitter that he was suffering through the Star Wars prequels, I sent him this video. It is the most accurate, and most batshit crazy review I've ever seen and if you haven't watched it, you really should. If you're a Star Wars fans, it makes the horror that was the prequels a little less obscene.

*Valerie Gribben, author of The Fairytale Trilogy wrote the piece Practicing Medicine Can Be Grimm Work for the New York Times about how fairytales have helped and guided her through med school.

*Neil Gaiman's American Gods tour has it's very own official icecream sponsor, the inimitable  Big Gay Icecream Truck. Some of the most bizarre, and mouth-watering ice-cream toppings I've ever seen. If anyone is in or near New York, please check them out for me!

*I've been obsessing over Molly Crabapple's Tumblr, Demographic of One. Check it out, her artwork is amazing (and appreciated by Neil Gaiman!) and she links to some incredible articles.

*Freakangels (Warren Ellis) is coming to a close! There are only 4 episodes left in this epic comic series, but it isn't too late to get into it!

*I freaking love Ricky Gervais' podcast with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington, it is hilarious and Karl is unlike any person I've ever encountered in real life! If you want to get an idea of how wildly bizarre their conversations are, without paying the fees, check out the free taster podcasts Ricky Gervais' Guide to.... The series takes 11 rather serious topics (comic relief, medicine, law and order, philosophy to name a few) and gives it their unique, absurd and humorous spin.

*Ross Douthart's NYT opinion piece 160 million and counting on Mara Hvistendahl's book Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men and the rebuttal by Mara Hvistendahl herself (for Salon.com) on his misunderstanding of her book and his pro-life agenda.

*Laura at Devouring Texts wrote a wonderful eulogy to the recently axed United States of Tara. I've never gotten into this show (I've only seen 20mins of one episode) but this eulogy has made me desperate to catch-up!

*It's only one month until I begin my month-long readathon for MS Australia. Hunt under the couch cushions and down the back of car seats for a couple of dollars that could be put towards an amazing cause!

  1. I had no idea Ricky Gervais had a podcast. But An Idiot Abroad was hilarious, so I need to check that out.

  2. It was started back in 2005 (i think) and is the funniest, most ridiculous thing I've ever listened too! Karl Pilkington is so odd, and has the most bizarre theories. I've had to stop listening to it in public because I'd be laughing out loud like some kind of crazy person!
