2013 Book Challenges

It's that time of year again folks!!

I did pretty poorly this year with my challenges, really, really badly actually. So this time I'm going to go in a different direction. Rather than take on a bunch of challenges and then feel terrible  when I fail to succeed with any of them, I'm going to take on only two challenges and then take part in more read-a-longs,  and read-a-thons. I think that'll work better for me since I'll know at the time of read-a-long sign-up if I have the time and energy, so my chance of success is wayyyyyy up. It'll also give me a chance to get to know with a few more of the bloggers out there!

So on to the challenges that I am taking part in. ...

2013 Reading Challenge

Hosted by: Goodreads

Timeframe: 1st of Jan - 31st of Dec 2013

Goal: 75 books

Why This One: I've done this one each year I've been blogging. I'm reading anyway, so why not tally them up for a challenge? This is the only one I always manage to succeed with (and more often blitz completely), so it's a good one for my ego!

Eclectic Reader Challenge

Hoted by: Book'd Out

Timeframe: 1st of Jan - 31st of Dec 2013

Goal: 12 books from 12 different genres

Why This One: This one has a specific goal (1 new genre each month) but it still has enough freedom that I can pick and choose titles that appeal to me. I'm hoping this will be enough variety to keep me on track all year. Plus, it'll be fun to move outside my comfort zone.

  1. crazy gif, but it made me laugh! I think it's a good choice to limit your challenges but then participate in more ad hoc blogging stuff.

    1. Isn't it just the weirdest and most hilarious things ever?! I think it's off one of those disgusting child beauty pageant shows, but it's also totally my go to ridiculous dance move haha

I really hope the ad hoc method works for me, especially since I had so much trouble juggling everything this year.

  2. Duuuuude, I'm so not doing challenges this year. Except I might do the off the shelf challenge again so that I read the damn books I own instead of not. So that, maybe. But mostly challenges just STRESS me out! And yeahhhh readalongs! You should host one! It's really fun! I'd do it! (Maybe. Depends on the book, OBVS)

    1. I'd totally love to host one!!

I don't know which book to pick though, I was thinking of maybe doing a contemporary book like Animal Farm or one of those books we're all supposed to have read, but seemingly haven't. Or maybe something brand new. Ideas?

  4. I totally failed my challenges this year too. I was way too ambitious and signed up for way too many. I even failed the Goodreads one - I aimed for 100 books and I'm not even halfway there!
I'm definitely only doing a couple of challenges next year, something achievable. I will still do the Goodreads one, I don't know whether to aim for 100 again coz I think I'll have more time to read, or set my sights lower and minimise my risk of failing. I do hate to fail.

    1. I actually set my Goodreads challenge at 50 this year, because I wasn't sure how much I'd get to read. When I hit it, I raised it to 60, then 70 and finally up to 80. I'm not sure whether it's better to underestimate like that, but at least I didn't feel too burdened with it.
