Movie Trailer: The End of the Tour (2015)

I am still yet to read a David Foster Wallace book so I'm probably not the intended audience for this film, but I actually really dig this trailer. I grew up loving films like Almost Famous and this trailer has a similar vibe, except with a writer in the role of the majestic musicians which is just an awesome thing we should see more often. The film is based on David Lipsky's (Jesse Eisenberg's character) book Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself, a non-fiction account of the 5 days he spent road tripping with DFW. Since I don't know either of the men as people or as writers I can't attest to how on point this trailer is, but even if they're only broad interpretations of the real men they're portraying I think this could potentially be a really interesting movie.

Movie Trailer: The Giver

The Giver is one of those books that I always notice people give 5 stars to and list among their favourite books, but until I saw this trailer I don't think I'd ever questioned what it was even about. Since I haven't read the book I don't really know what to expect from the film, does it look like a decent adaptation? Does it look good? I dunno, it kinda looks like every other grey-toned dystopian YA making headlines at the moment. What I do know however, is that I know the lead actor. Or rather, he grew up down the street from me and I know his name is Brenton and that's about it. BUT YOU GUYS, HOW INSANE IS THAT! I think that technically makes me famous by association right? Tom Hiddleston has no excuse to ignore my emails any longer!

The Giver hits cinemas in America in August. I'm guessing it'll have a similar international release. Maybe.

Movie Trailer: Hateship Loveship (2014)

Oooooooh Kristin Wiig, Guy Pearce and Hailee Steinfeld in a film adaptation of Alice Munro's Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage? I am IN. It's also a nice reminder that I need to read some flippin' Alice Munro already!

Monday Links

*20 books that are almost impossible to adapt - except that a bunch of them have been adapted and adapted successfully, but whatevs (Via Buzzfeed)

*David Sedaris wrote this essay about his younger sister's suicide and it's a really great aching read. (Via The New Yorker)

*Just in time for Halloween, here are 20 awesome horror flicks you can stream online for free. Definitely watch The Orphanage, such an amazing film, but if you're after silly B-grade horror you can't go past Sleepaway Camp, you have to see it to believe it. (Via Flavorwire)

*We all agree that Twin Peaks is amazing right? Well Mental Floss have a great article about how it transformed the soap opera into high art. (Via Mental Floss)

*I love when people re-imagine Disney princesses as something else, so I especially love this adaptation which imagines them as pop culture heroines! Aerial as Black Wids might be the greatest thing I've seen. (Via Buzzfeed)

Life of Pi movie trailer

I haven't actually read Yann Martel's Life of Pi (although people are constantly telling me I should - maybe that's why?) but I'd be lying if I said this trailer didn't make me more than a little curious to finally pick up the book. The trailer doesn't seem to say much about the story (can any readers of the book verify if there is more to the narrative than a boy being shipwrecked with a tiger?), but I have a lot of respect for Ang Lee as a film maker, so I'm hoping it'll do the book justice.

It's due out in November.
